Mark was born on February 5, 1958 in Creston, Iowa to the late Orval and Shirly Woosley. He grew up in Creston. As a youth he attended St. Malachy’s Catholic School until eighth grade, where he was an altar boy. Mark graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1976 where he excelled in football. He then attended Northwestern College at Orange City on a football scholarship until transferring to Northwest Missouri State University and later on to Airline School in North Miami Beach, Florida.
On March 5, 1983, Mark married his loving wife Joyce (Bradley). Mark worked for the airline companies for 26 years. Starting his career as a Customer Service Agent with Northwest Airlines in Kansas City in 1981 before transferring to Des Moines airport in 1985. Friends and colleagues from those days describe him as a hard worker, even picking up double/triple shifts and working holidays to provide for his family. The bonds they forged through their work were cherished by Mark even after he stopped working. During this time, Mark was also part owner of Marjo’s restaurant in Creston where he spent numerous weekends cooking. In 2006, Northwest Airlines merged and became Delta Airlines. Mark’s job was outsourced so he shifted careers and became part owners of Ultimate Edging and Landscaping and Murphy’s Bar and Grill. In 2012, Mark was employed as a custodian for the Indianola School District. Currently, he was the head custodian at Emerson Elementary School where he was loved by both staff and students.
Mark was a humble man of deep faith. His family was his greatest joy and would do anything for them. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He beamed with pride when talking about his children and grandchildren. Watching his children and grandchildren play sports, was a highlight of his life. Mark was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed grilling, and playing golf. When he wasn’t playing, he was watching it on the television. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
