(March 28, 1932 - December 16, 2021)

A Celebration of Life Service for Merwyn Alexander Dyer, 89, who passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at home, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Indianola Trinity United Presbyterian Church with burial of cremains following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Those in attendance are required to wear a mask.
Merwyn Alexander Dyer was born March 28, 1932 in Indianola, Iowa to Kenneth and Elizabeth Dyer. Merwyn, and his older brother Rollin worked on their family farm and attended country school where their mother was a teacher. Merwyn graduated from Indianola High School in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Borchert, January 27, 1952. In September 1952, Merwyn enlisted in the United States Army and was later deployed to South Korea as a TOPO Surveyor. After the Korean War he was honorably discharged in September of 1954. Upon returning to the states, Merwyn attended Iowa State University. Merwyn and Norma returned to the family farm south of Indianola, where they raised their two sons, Maurice and Grant. Merwyn worked for Iowa Power/MidAmerican Energy as a Draftsman/Purchaser for 33 years.
In August of 1993, Merwyn married Theresa Christenson/Cornell and they resided south of Indianola until his passing. Merwyn was a lover of nature and expressed his creativity through his photography. He entered many photos at the Iowa State Fair and had many of his favorite pieces framed around his home. He loved living on the family farm and enjoyed all of its wild treasures.
Survivors include his wife; Theresa; son, Maurice (Betty) Dyer; daughter-in-law Sue Dyer; step-children, Christopher Cornell and Kim (Jeremy) Kruse; grandchildren, Alex Dyer, Jessica (Michael) Forinash, Maryanne Dyer, Katy (Chris) Cran, Sarah Dyer, Brianne Cornell, Claire Kruse, Bryce Cornell and Kaylyn Kruse; great-granddaughters Caroline and Charlotte Cran. He was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Dyer; son, Grant Dyer; parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Dyer; and brother, Rollin Dyer. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
