Rodney Earl Hutt
(April 13, 1960 - December 27, 2021)

Rodney Earl Hutt, 61, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2021 in a tragic automobile accident.
Birth & Early Life: Rod was born on April 13, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa and raised in Indianola, Iowa. His family moved to a farm when he was 10 years near Aqhuabi Lake where his love for farms, animals and tractors was born. As a child and teenager, he participated in FFA and 4H, while maintaining a job at Fareway and helping on the farm. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1978.
Family: Rod married Kathy Kellogg in 1981, and they have two wonderful children together, Kristen and Stephen. They were married for 27 years. He and his partner of almost 7 years, Craig Mullenbach, had recently became engaged, and were planning to marry.
Education: Rod was a passionate advocate of education and continuous learning. Throughout his life he attended multiple colleges and universities as he was always taking new classes to keep himself knowledgeable and at the forefront of technology and Computer Science. His educational journey began at Iowa State University, followed by Grand View University- Class of 1985- AAS, Drake University- Class of 1994- BS Computer Science, Colorado Technical- Class of 2019- MS Information Technology, and Iowa State University- class of 2020- MBA Business Analytics.
Career: Rod had a very successful career that began at Northwestern Bell/AT&T after high school. While there he met life long best fried Alan Hemann, and his future wife Kathy. His successful career with Northwestern Bell & AT&T provided an opportunity to work in Minnesota and New Jersey, but Iowa called him and his family back to his Iowa roots, and he settled in Des Moines. While in Des Moines, he held several successful positions within Norwest/Wells Fargo and Principal Financial where he quickly established himself as a leader in Computer Science and Information Technology. Most recently, Rod was enjoying a new position as a Database Administrator at Premier BankCard. He left a legacy everywhere he worked.
Rod loved to travel and experience new places and meet new people, especially with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking them on local and long-distance trips, especially Minneapolis and Chicago, two of his favorite cities. He always made the time to explore the local trains, try new foods, and explore all that a city had to offer.
Rod is preceeded in death by his father, Donald Hutt, mother, Patricia Freuh, and step-father Norbert Freuh. Rod is survived by his daughter Kristen (Doug) Thornburg, son Stephen (Angie) Hutt, sister Dawn (Cynthia) Hutt, sister Kelly Manchester, step-siblings Bill, Barb, Brenda & Bonnie, Grandchildren Nicholas, Elizabeth, Braedyn, and Wyatt, many nieces & nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 where family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 8 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:30 am at Overton Funeral Home. Lunch to follow at the Indianola American Legion Hall.
