Services for Alexander Jacob Sheets, 29, who passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in Iowa City, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Rising Sun Cemetery.
Alex is survived by his father, Bruce (Jill) Sheets; siblings, Johanna (Chris) MacKenzie, Andy Sheets, Trevor Grass, Tyler Grass, Jesse Hanson, Timothy Grass and Summer Minor; nieces, Annie and Molly MacKenzie; grandmothers, Arlene Frantz and Julie Collins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Sheets; grandparents, Otto and Bernie Jones and Duane Sheets.
Alex was born with a rare genetic disorder, but he didn’t let that stop him from living life to the fullest. Alex was drawn to nature and all that it encompassed and loved to share that passion through hiking, fishing, camping, and late night bonfires. As a proud Boy Scout he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and picked up the nickname, “Shiny”, which followed him through the rest of his life. His love of gaming meant he was always awake when his friends needed him at 2:30 in the morning. Alex had an inspiring ability to make people feel welcome. Wherever Alex went he accepted whoever he met without judgement or prejudice. He will be remembered for his dry, quick wit and humor, which will continue to bring smiles and warmth through the memories of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home.
