Elizabeth “Bess” (Harris) Dusenberry
(1886 – July 27, 1960)Former Resident Dies in Oregon
The death of Mrs. Bess Harris Dusenberry, 74, a former Indianolan, occurred in a convalescent home in Portland, Oregon July 27, according to a clipping from the Portland Oregonian received by Mrs. Dolly Long from her sister-in-law, Mrs. C. D. (Regina) Rauch of Portland, who was an intimate friend of Mrs. Dusenberry. Death was due to cancer. Mrs. Dusenberry was the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. J. B. Harris, who was the minister of the Methodist Church here 1895-1898 and interim president of Simpson College 1898-1899. He later served at Boone and as superintendent of the Boone district. Mrs. Dusenberry graduated from Simpson in the class of 1906. Her marriage to Verne Dallas Dusenberry was the culmination of a college romance. They had lived in Portland since 1926, where Mr. Dusenberry practiced law and was a teacher in the law school of the University of Oregon. The Oregonian story indicates that Mrs. Dusenberry was very active in civic organizations in Portland. Survivors include her husband and four sons; Dallas, Umatilla; Harris, Vancouver; Earl, Spokane, Wash., Robert, Oswego, Wash; and ten grandchildren.
