Services Held For Edgar N. Bearden
Funeral services for Edgar Newell Bearden, 83, a longtime resident of Lacona were held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Newbern church. The Rev. Pearl Sams officiated with interment in Newbern cemetery, Miley-Brueggemann in charge. Mr. Bearden died Saturday, Nov. 4, in Lucas County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Elsie of Lacona; one son, Galan of Lacona; three daughters, Wilma Bearden of Lacona, Mrs. K. L. Sharp of Raytown, Mo., Mrs. J. A. Storey of Rogers, Ark.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Obituaries – Bearden
Edgar Newell Bearden, son of Ebenezer and Eliza Newell Bearden was born August 10, 1884 near Monroe and passed away Nov 4, 1967 at the age of 83 years, two months and 24 days. Mr. Bearden moved to Lucas County at the age of seven years and has lived and worked on the same farm since that time. He received his early education at the Graves school near the family home. He attended Blackburn Seminary at Chariton and graduated from Simpson Business College in 1905. He was married to the former Elsie Mason at the Mason family home near Newbern on the 9th of January, 1907. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary early this year. To their marriage five daughters and one son were born. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, his son Galin and his wife Pauline of Lacona; three daughters, Wilma of the family home; Mrs. Ellen Sharp and her husband, Kermit of Raytown, Mo., and Mrs. Lucille Storey and her husband, Joseph, of Rogers, Ark. He is also survived by four grand children, Richard Sharp and Robert, Linda and Suzanne Storey. Also two step-grandchildren, William Birdsell and his wife Carolyn, and Mrs. Patricia Offenburger and her husband, Larry. There are also four step-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol, another daughter in infancy, and two sisters and one brother. As a young man he was converted in the United Brethren church and had served for many years on the board of the Newbern Community church. He was a charter member of the Lucas County Farm Bureau and had served for many years as a member of the Lucas County Creamery Board. He was active in community affairs as long as his health permitted. He was a good friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed in the community. Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Newbern Community Church, with the Rev. Pearl Sams officiating. Interment was in the Newbern Cemetery. Arrangements were by Miley-Brueggemann Funeral directors.
