NOAH F. WOOD
95-Year Old Dies Who Came to County In Covered Wagon
Frank Wood, who died Friday night at his home in Spring Hill was buried on his 95th birthday Monday, Feb. 2.
Mr. Wood accompanied his parents to Warren county from Maryville, Mo., when he was 11 years old and had lived in the county ever since. His parents came to Warren county in a covered wagon with one horse and an oxen hitched together. He has lived on the same farm for 64 years.
Although Mr. Wood had only nine months of schooling he was a firm believer in education and was president of the Spring Hill school board for over 30 years. He attended school in a schoolhouse at Greenbush near his home. School was held only three months of each year. The small village of Greenbush and the school are now consolidated with other schools and towns.
When his parents moved to Warren county there were few roads and no railroad. Later a railroad was put through his father's land. There were no fences and Mr. Wood used to tell of his work tending to the cattle and how he was kept busy running after the cows and horses.
Once he accompanied his parents to their old home at Maryville and his father was stopped and arrested. The officers thought he was a horse thief and he had to return home for proof that he was not a thief. He was released, and they returned to Maryville for a visit.
Mr. Wood's full name was Noah Franklin but no one knew him except as Frank. He was superintendent of the Christian church at Spring Hill for many years.
Surviving are five children: Curtis at Burlington; Emmett and Gene of Indianola; Edd of Spring Hill and Mrs. Oscar Backley of Los Angeles.

Noah Franklin Wood was born at Marysville, Mo., Feb. 2, 1853, and died Jan. 31, 1948, at the home of his son, E.R. Wood, Spring Hill. He died at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 29 days.
In 1879, he was married to Henrietta Christina Saylers. To this union seven children were born. They are: James Franklin Wood, deceased; Edward R. Wood, Spring Hill; Malinda G. Backley, California; Grover Earl Wood, deceased; Emmett W. Wood, Prole; C.W. Wood, Bevington; and Eugene P. Wood, Indianola.
Other survivors are 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was a charter member of the Christian church at Spring Hill and served as Sunday School superintendent for a number of years. He was always a true and faithful member.
Services were held at the Spring Hill church Feb. 2. Interment was in the Webb cemetery.
