Mrs. Catharine Darnell, daughter of Jeremiah and Lodena (Stitt) Sand, was born in Sandyville in Warren County May 12, 1859, and died in the hospital at Oxnard, Calif., July 7, 1946, while she was on a visit at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Gardner of Oxnard. She made her home with her daughters, Mrs. James Hudson of Los Angeles and Mrs. Gardner. She was united in marriage to Charles W. Darnell March 4, 1879. To them were born four children: George Darnell of Minneapolis, Robert Allen Darnell of Ackworth, Mrs. Hazel Hudson and Mrs. Margaret Gardner. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Charles Gardner, Catherine Mary Sumner and George L. Hudson, and four great grandchildren. Mr. Darnell died about thirty years ago.
Mrs. Darnell was born and reared in Warren County and lived here until about 25 years ago. She had been living with her daughters for the past year because of ill health. Services were held at the Overton Funeral Home Friday, July 12, conducted by the Rev. W. T. Martin, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
