George Arthur Shetterly
(February 3, 1874 – December 27, 1932)

George Arthur Shetterly, son of Thomas Allen and Lydia Fox Shetterly was born near Hartford, Ia., Feb 3, 1874, and passes away at Noel, Mo., Dec 27, 1932, aged 58 years, 10 months and 24 days. His mother died when he was nine days old and he was cared for by his grandmother Shetterly and other kind relatives. At the age of fifteen he accompanied his father and stepmother to Portland, Ore., remaining there two years. He was a lover of travel and took extensive trips over the United States, Canada, and parts of Mexico. He was married to Miss Lola E. Imel Sept. 14, 1916, at Council Bluffs, Ia., He is survived by his wife, one brother, Oran T. Shetterly of Lacrorie, Sask., Canada; stepmother and one half-brother, Carl of Portland, Ore. and a host of other relatives and friends. He openly confessed his faith in Christ and was a hearty supporter of all good causes, a man of strong mind and character possessed by few. His main occupation was farming, but had several other interests and was always active. He was a member of the A. F. A. M. lodge of Hartford for more than thirty years. Funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church at Hartford. ….. Methodist Episcopal church under the pastorate of Rev. Michael Harneck and two years ago when he was called home to the funeral of his sister, Fern, while home alone he was converted. In last November when his ship came into the harbor at Philadelphia he called over long distance to his mother. That is the last time his mother heard the voice of her boy. The next day after this conversation he wrote a letter to his two young brothers, Paul and Arthur, telling them to live clean lives. His character was an example which a youth might well follow. He leaves to mourn his departure his parents, two sisters and two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. John Wallace, Mrs. Leona Scheon of Des Moines, Cloise Wallace, Paul and Arthur. A sister, Mrs. Fern Hollingsworth and a brother, Marion Edward, preceded him in death. He also leaves a host of other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held at the church at Wick Friday, Dec. 30, at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. M. Watson of Norwalk. Interment was in the Wallace Cemetery.
