Helen Cupp
(April 20, 1868 – August 24, 1930)

Mrs. D. W. Cupp
Helen Drake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Drake, was born April 20, 1868 and passed away at her home in Indianola, Aug 24, 1930, after an illness of several months. On Aug 29, 1888, she was united in marriage to William A. Deets. To this union were born two children, Herbert Horace Deets, and Mildred Elizabeth Deets. Mildred Elizabeth and Mr. Deets have preceded her in death. On Feb 17, 1909, she was married to D. W. Cupp. When a young woman she united with the Methodist church at Orillia, her home church. She has ever been a very faithful and upright Christian. During a long period she has been engaged in the hotel business in which she was very capable. For several years she has fought a great battle with ill health but her faith was in God and she trusted implicitly in the Lord Jesus Christ. She leaves a devoted sister, Mrs. Georgia Freeman, of Valley Junction, and a brother, A. H. Drake, of Madrid, besides her son, Herbert, wife and three children, of Des Moines. The help at the hotel was regarded by her almost as her own, especially Miss Lulu Ferguson. Those who knew Mrs. Cupp best loved her most. Her husband has devoted himself to her in every possible way, day and night. He will be lonely and will miss his companion greatly but he will have satisfaction in having done all things possible for the one who has gone. The funeral services were held at the Orr Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug 27, at 1 p.m., with interment at Orillia.
Card of Thanks: We wish to express our thanks for the sympathy and help during the illness at at the time of the death of our loved one; and for the floral offerings. – D. W. Cupp, Herbert Deets and family, Mrs. Georgia Freeman, A. H. Drake. [copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, Iowa – date of paper, September 4, 1930]
