Typed on page: Elias Shutt, born July 31, 1832 in Burks County, Penn., died at home in Indianola, Feb 4, 1924, aged 91 years, 6 months, 4 days. He was the son of Benjamin and Barbara Shutt, reared on a farm, attended county schools.
1845 moved to Montgomery County, Ohio
1851 moved to Shelby County and later to Tippecanoe County, Indiana
1856, at age 24, moved to Iowa by team and wagon to Richland Township, Warren County
1872 bought a farm in Jasper County, then to Fonda, Iowa

…1884, returning……. 1893 and settling at Indianola where he has since lived a retired life. On June 11, 1857 Mr. Shutt was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Brown of Warren County, Iowa, who died November 10, 1862. In 1864 Mr. Shutt was married to Mrs. Margaret Yount Pendry who still survives him. To this union were born three children: Mrs. G. A. Moore of Indianola, Mrs. G. B. McIntyre of Indianola and Mrs. J. A. Pendry of Hartford. Besides his wife and three children, all of whom are still living, and a nephew, G. W. Shutt of Hartford, who made his home with him for a number of years, he also leaves eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of friends. Although Mr. Shutt was confined to the house the last two years of his life, his greatest concern seemed to be for the welfare of his aged companion who had helped to care for him so tenderly in the years of his declining health and often expressed the wish that she might be spared to him for the remainder of life’s journey.

Elias shut died Monday morning at 4:20 o’clock, after a long illness. Mr. Shutt was 91 years old. He has been a resident of this city for about thirty years, removing here from Hartford.
