Lujean C. Wilt
(August 1, 1924 - April 22, 2019)

Lujean (Jean) C. Wilt, 94, of Portland, OR, formerly of Carlisle and Des Moines. Passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, April 22, 2019, at Adult Care Home in Lake Oswego, OR.
Jean was born August 1, 1924, in Carlisle to Frank and Bertha Kail. She attended elementary school in Carlisle and graduated from East High School in Des Moines. Jean attended college in California before joining the Navy WAVES during World War II. She was stationed at the USO in San Francisco where she re- met James F. (Jim) Wilt of Carlisle. After the war, they both attended the University of Iowa and were married in 1947. After graduating from UI, they made their home in Carlisle.
Jean taught elementary school and remedial reading in Des Moines and Carlisle. Several times during her life in Carlisle, and later Des Moines, former students would recognize her and thank her for teaching them to read. Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking. Her passion was international and natural foods and collecting cookbooks. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling to visit friends and relatives, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Lujean is survived by her children James P. (wife Vicki) Wilt, of Minneapolis, Julie Wilt (husband Dan Martin) of Portland, OR, and grandchildren Alex Wilt and Anna Wilt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marianne Allen, husband James F. Wilt, and son John R. Wilt.
Interment of ashes take will place at Carlisle Township Cemetery at 11:00 am, on June 24, 2019. Refreshments will be served afterward at the Randleman House. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the charity of your choice. This memorial is provided by Peterson Funeral Home, 415 School Street, Carlisle, Iowa,
