Ewing Winton Lanning
(November 17, 1873 – November 22, 1923)

E. W. Lanning passed away Thursday morning at his home here, after a few hours illness, due to apoplexy, and funeral service was held Friday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. Walter Sandy of Knoxville. Interment was made in the Carlisle Cemetery. Mr. Lanning has been in poor health for sometimes, but on Wednesday afternoon had made a trip to the farm, seeming as well as usual. He was stricken with a severe illness, about five-thirty o’clock Wednesday evening which resulted in his death early Thursday morning. He was fifty years of age and is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Blanche Seid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Seid, and one son, Ewing, age 6. Also one brother, M. C. Lanning of Des Moines.
