Nicholas Henry Perry
(September 11, 1847 – June 8, 1923)

N. H. PERRY
Nicholas Henry Perry, son of Mary Ann and Nicholas Perry, was born September 11, 1847 in Miami County, Indiana, and died June 8, 1923, age 75 years, 9 months and 28 days. When about 6 years old he moved with his parents to Warren County, Iowa, and settled on a farm 3 ¼ miles north of what is now the town of Ackworth, where he has resided or near there all of his life. He was married in 1879 to Alice Simons. To this union were born two sons, Arthur and Evart, Evart dying at the age of 9 years. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, son, Arthur and wife, and two grandsons: Gerald and Loren Perry. Also his brother, John N. of Indianola and Michael of Des Moines, and one half sister, Mrs. Alfred Reynolds (deceased) and several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends. All of his immediate family were with him during his last illness and death. He bore his suffering with great patience although it was very intense. During his illness he manifested his faith in Christ and expressed a desire to go and be at rest. He was a very quiet man and his greatest joy was his home life and family associations.
Not now, but in the coming years it may be in the better land, we’ll read the meaning of our tears, and there , sometimes, we’ll understand. We’ll know why clouds instead of sun, were over many a cherished plan; why song has ceased when scarce begun, tis there sometime, we’ll understand. God knows the way, He holds the key. He guides us with unerring hand; sometime with tearless eyes we’ll see, yes, there up there, we’ll understand. Then trust in God, thru all thy days, fear not; He doth hold they hand, tho’ dark thy way, still sing and praise. Sometime, sometime, we’ll understand.
Funeral services were held at the Friends church, conducted by Rev. George McClellan, assisted by Rev. Samuel Jackson. Burial in Ackworth Cemetery.
