Harry Hartzler Died Thursday
Harry S. Hartzler, 64, former Warren County Sheriff for 12 years, died at his home, 205 N. Jefferson, early this morning. Mr. Hartzler had been seriously ill since he suffered a stroke about five weeks ago. At that time he was taken to a Des Moines hospital, but only remained there a few days. He was born in Carlisle, Pa., in 1888 and came to Iowa with his parents. The family settled on a farm north of Indianola which was later occupied by Mrs. Janet Piffer. For the past 25 or 30 years Mr. Hartzler has been employed in public service. Prior to the time he served as sheriff of Warren County he was day marshall of Indianola. After serving as sheriff he was night marshal for awhile and recently was constable.
He is survived by his wife, two brothers, John of Indianola, and Frank of Earlham; six sisters, Lou and Bert Hartzler, Mrs. Minnie Traub, Mrs. Joseph Malone, Mrs, Effie Spray of Indianola, and Mrs. H. A. Triller of Des Moines, and two sons, Will of Indianola, and Kenneth of Boise, Idaho. The funeral services will be held at the Orr Funeral home, Sunday, at 3 p.m.
