Wanda Pauline Hardin
(July 25, 1922 - December 2, 2019)

Wanda Hardin, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Scottish Rite Park on December 2, 2019. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 am, December 6, 2019 with services to follow at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Interment will be in Pleasantville Cemetery.
Wanda was born on July 25, 1922 in Beech, Iowa to William V. and Clara May (Byers) Powell. Wanda was raised on a farm as the youngest of eight. She was shaped by the trials of the Depression, World War II, and the loss of her mother at age 19. She was a hard-working, civic-minded, family-oriented, and patriotic lady who was a part of the "Greatest Generation." She had a winning smile and a pleasant disposition. Two years after graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1940, she married L. Dale (Pete) Hardin and moved to California during WWII. After the war, they returned to Pleasantville to live and raise a family. In 1958 they relocated to Indianola as owner/operators of the Dairy Queen for 10 years. She later worked at various local pharmacies for many years. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Indianola for 65 years. She was also an active member of Business and Professional Women and Friends Night Out.
Wanda is survived by her sons Ronald (Carolyn) Hardin of Fayetteville, NC, Robert (Jan) Hardin of Windsor Heights, IA, grandchildren Jessica (Hardin) and Mike Enyeart of Cape Carteret, NC, Brian and Cara Hardin of Johnston, IA, Rebecca (Hardin) and Marc Gastaldo of Ashburn, VA, Julie (Hardin) and Andy Gunderson of Rockford, Ml, Matt and Rachel Hardin of Des Moines, IA, six great-grandchildren, and various nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, her parents, half-brothers Chester and Dick Powell, half-sisters Della and Ellen Sams, a sister Ardis Powell, and brothers Dale and Daryl Powell. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or the Pleasantville Alumni Association.
