Levi Thomas Steil
(March 22, 1994 - April 14, 2020)

Levi Thomas Steil, born March 22, 1994, died on April 14, 2020 at the age of 26 in his Altoona, Iowa home. Levi grew up in New Virginia, IA while attending Interstate 35 Schools. He was a graduate of the class of 2012. After graduation, he enrolled at Des Moines Area Community College, with aspirations to become a barber.
In 2013, he went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Lillian Otto, in Des Moines, IA. Together they brought two beautiful sons into the world. Liam Jonathan and Leonidas Thomas; ages six and two, respectively.
Levi was very passionate about music. He loved listening to rock music. He owned a collection of t-shirts from numerous rock concerts he attended throughout the years. Another passion he had was tattoos. He was always thinking about what tattoo he wanted to get next. For him, each tattoo had a special significance and expressed what he found to be important. If you asked Levi, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was being a father. Levi’s boys were his pride and joy. He would drop whatever he was doing to spend time with them, including taking them fishing with his dad, Tom. Levi and his sons would also spend time constructing LEGO creations and playing Mario Cart. The joy he brought to his sons was infectious. He had a way to make them laugh until their stomachs hurt. Whether he was chasing them around the back yard, having silly dance parties or teaching them important life lessons, his love for them was always evident.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lilly; two sons, Liam and Leo; parents, Tom and Tina Steil, siblings, Michael Belieu, Dallas Steil and Baily Steil, and numerous other family members and friends. The best parts of Levi will live on through his sons. Anytime you miss Levi, stop by and see his boys. They display his carefree attitude, eagerness to explore the outdoors, and funny sense of humor.
Levi was preceded in death by his grandparents Gayland and Doris McDole.
Donations to support his children can be made payable to Lillian Steil and sent to Bankers Trust 655 E Army Post Rd Des Moines, Iowa 50315
“He’s in the sun, the wind, the rain. He’s in the air you breathe with every breath you take. He sings a song of hope and cheer. There’s no more pain, no more fear. You’ll see him in the clouds above, hear him whisper words of love. You’ll be together before long, until then, listen for his song.” “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.” – Irving Berlin
