(July 21, 1963 - February 18, 2020)

Services for Susan Dunn, 56, who passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at home, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Norwalk United Methodist Church with burial following in the Norwalk Cemetery.
Susan is survived by her sons, Michael Dunn and Allen Dunn; grandson, Nolan Dunn; father, Joseph Donald Patava; mother, Barb (Lloyd) Willbrandt; siblings, Tom (Barb) Patava, Tim (Jill) Patava, David (Michelle) Patava, Shelly (Rob) Rudolf; mother-in-law, Wilma Dunn; sister-in-law, Barbara Dunn; brothers-in-law, Robert “Bobby” (Ruth) Dunn Jr. and Tom (Pam) Dunn; uncle Steve (Penny) Held, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Dunn; and father-in-law, Robert Dunn Sr.
It was the simple things in life that brought joy to Susan. Working in the yard, playing golf, having dinner with friends, reading, attending her son’s wrestling matches, long walks on the acreage, and taking trips to California with her mom and sister to visit family were some of the activities that made her happy. She enjoyed family cookouts and gatherings on holidays. Her yard was immaculate, and she took great pride to ensure that the lines left by her riding mower were perfectly straight and evenly spaced.
Susan married into the Dunn farming family. She was proud that her husband was a farmer, and she appreciated how hard he worked along with his brothers to provide for her and their sons.
One of her favorite pastimes was what she called, “front porch sitting.” The front porch on their acreage home that Richard and Susan built 17 years ago was their special place. Sitting on the front porch while looking over their corn fields or watching the hot air balloons gave Richard, Susan, and many others who joined them the opportunity to relax and have meaningful conversation. In the fast-paced world that we live in, perhaps they knew that their front porch could provide the means to slow life down, albeit for an evening, and enjoy each other’s company.
The most important quality that defined Susan’s life was her love for her boys. Her husband, Richard, sons Michael and Allen, and grandson, Nolan, were the centerpieces of her life. She put them first in all that she did. Her efforts in caring for her husband as he neared the end of his battle with cancer allowed him to remain in his home. It was not easy, but she persevered in granting his wish to be home with his family. She took good care of her sons, from the day they were born until her recent passing. She was grandma to Nolan, and she played the part well. Nolan loves to play board games and he is keenly interested in dinosaurs; therefore, Susan became an accomplished board “gamer” and they made many trips to the Science Center so that Nolan could educate Grandma about dinosaurs. Nolan also enjoyed going on walks with Grandma.
Susan’s time on this earth was unexpectedly cut short, and she will be missed dearly by many.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Norwalk United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given in her name to the Pink Tractor Foundation or the Norwalk United Methodist Church.
