Harold LaVerne Brown
(June 19, 1930 - March 26, 2020)Harold LaVerne Brown, 89, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020, at home. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
Harold LaVerne Brown, was born June 19, 1930, in rural Stuart, IA to Rex Earl and Lovina (Tam) Brown. Harold graduated from Linden High School in Linden, IA. He was united in marriage on March 19, 1950 to Elaine Myrtle Olson. To this union four children were born, Judy, Ronald, Norman and Marvin Brown.
Harold had served as a volunteer fire fighter in Adel for 18 years serving as chief for six years, Adel Rotary Club for 13 years, Adel Development Board for several years, Adel Little League Coach for 18 years and one of the Founders of the Adel Babe Ruth Baseball League helping to acquire the land and building a diamond and bleachers, one of the volunteers who built a premier cinder track for the Adel High School, and also helped with the Boy Scouts. Harold was owner of Brown Construction Home Builders, Co-Owner of Adel Locker Service and member of the Iowa Locker Association and for several years in a row was awarded Best Ham or Best Bacon in the State of Iowa, and owner of Brown Tile, Terrace and Pond Construction and was recognized by the United States Senate for his Soil Conservation efforts on his farm. He had also served as President of LICA (Land Improvement Contractor Association). Harold and his wife Elaine moved to Indianola in January of 1979.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elaine Brown; children, Judy Anthony, Ronald (Judith) Brown, Norman (Lila) Brown and Marvin (Sherri) Brown; grandchildren, Jamie Brown, Nathan Brown, Mike (Robyn) Brown, Eric Brown, Daniel Brown, Christina (Nil) Valls, Jonathan Brown, Nikki Brown; great-grandchildren, Taryn Brown, Ashley (Jackson) Morris, Austin Brown, Mercedes Brown, Ethan Brown, Imagen Brown, James Brown, Eren Brown, Jett Valls, and Baby girl Valls; and sister, Juanita Shade. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Robert, Dean and Lloyd Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Adel Fire Department or the American Diabetes Assocation, in his name.
