Obituary - Mrs. Wm. E. Kile
Mrs. W. E. Kile, 49, well known resident of the Larland community, died suddenly Sunday evening at her home east of this city. Mrs. Kile had suffered with high blood pressure for about four years. She suffered a paralytic stroke at 10:30 Sunday morning and died at 5:15 that afternoon. The stroke was the third to have been suffered by her in recent years. Mrs. Kile, whose maiden name was Emma Estalene Shupe, was born at Lacona on July 29, 1883, the daughter of Samuel and Elvira Shupe. Her girlhood was spent mostly at Liberty Center and Indianola. She was graduated from the Iowa National Bible Training school of Des Moines and from Drake University. She also was a student at Simpson conservatory of music. She had, since early girlhood, been a prominent member of the Methodist church, joining at Des Moines. She was a deaconess at Trinity church there for some years before taking up evangelistic work. For six years she traveled as an evangelist, under auspices of the Woman’s Home Missionary Society.
Her marriage to Mr. Kile took place on November 24, 1911, at Liberty Center. Mr. and Mrs. Kile spent most of their married life in Des Moines, except for two years spent in Colorado, and during recent years, since their removal to a farm east of Audubon.
She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Helen, who attends Simpson College at Indianola, and Wilma, an Audubon high school student. One son died in infancy nineteen years ago. Also surviving are the mother at Indianola, three sisters, Mrs. Reuben Lamb, Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Glen Hess, Indianola, and Mrs. Bob Kimzey, Indianola and one brother, A. G. Shupe of Danville. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday at 9 a.m., the Evangelical and Lone Star churches officiating, assisted by the Rev. G. S. Nichols, Audubon Methodist pastor. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at Liberty Center, the Rev. Mr. Nichols and the Rev. M. A. Gable, pastor of Indianola Methodist church, officiating, and burial was made in the Liberty Center cemetery. - Audubon Advocate Republican
