Dorothy M. Mallory
(August 18, 1943 - March 23, 2019)

Graveside services for Dorothy M. Mallory, 75, who passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29 at Gullion Cemetery on Highway G76, just south of Attica, Iowa.
Dorothy was born August 18, 1943 to Franklin and Mamie Knouse. She graduated from Southeast Warren High School in Liberty Center, Iowa in 1961. She married Ronald Dale Mallory on May 26, 1963 and they enjoyed 27 years of married life together until Ronald passed away on November 2, 1990. Three children were born into their lives.
Dorothy grew up in rural Warren County, and in the summer of ’62 met her life-long love, Ron while he was home on leave from the Navy. The two married in ‘63 and welcomed their daughter Debora Sue in ‘64 and son Dale Wayne in ’66. Following discharge, the pair returned to Iowa settling in Milo and in ‘75 welcomed their third child, Rebecca Ruth.
Dorothy was active in the Milo United Methodist Church. She was a member of the women’s society, and enjoyed making crafts with her friends for the annual bazaar and raising money for children to attend Camp Wesley Woods.
Dorothy and Ron established a tree nursery and transplanting business. A self-taught florist, Dorothy was very artistic; arranging flowers for many weddings. She especially enjoyed making evergreen wreaths from trees on their farm. They enjoyed country music, often attending summer music festivals.
In the summer of 1990 Dorothy and Ron relocated to the family farm outside of Attica. Following Ron’s unexpected passing, Dorothy opened a shop, “The Hen’s Nest”, and enjoyed welcoming customers through her many flower gardens that she shared with family and friends. An avid reader, Dorothy told many original stories to her grandchildren often taking them out and around the farm on “bear hunts” to live out the story.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; parents, Franklin and Mamie Knouse; brothers, Gerald and David Knouse. She is survived by daughters, Debora (Mark) Gerken of Colorado Springs, CO; Rebecca (Tyler) Niernberger of Norman, OK; son, Dale (Lori) Mallory of Knoxville, IA; seven grandchildren and one brother, Edwin (Judy) Knouse of Maumelle, AR.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Camp Wesley Woods. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
