Memorial services for Dale Wood, 96, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family at Windsor Manor of Indianola, on Thursday, May 9, 2019, will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 17 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola. Burial of cremains will follow at I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Indianola.
Dale was born on January 26, 1923 in Spring Hill, Iowa to Edward R. and Luretta E. (McGlothlen) Wood, the youngest of seven siblings. Dale spent his early years in Spring Hill assisting with the family farming and livestock operations and learning what would become his lifelong career in agriculture. As a young adult Dale met the love of his life, June Knouse of Indianola, Iowa, and they were married on July 17, 1948. Dale was born in Warren County and he spent his entire life in Warren County with agriculture and livestock providing the livelihood for his family. Dale continued to assist with various farming operations well after his “retirement” and took great pride in knowing he helped plant and harvest a crop at 80 years of age.
Dale is survived by his wife, June, of 70 years; children, John (Barb) Wood and Lea Anne Wood; granddaughters, Kimberly (Kyle) Van Sickle and Danielle (Tyler) Gathers; great-grandchildren, Mitch and Maddie Van Sickle and Grayson and Hudson Gathers; sister-in-law, Joyce Clasing; brother-in-law, Roger Knouse; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Donald Wood, Jim Wood, Clive Wood, Murray Wood, Edward Wood and Alice Sparks.
The family wishes to thank all of the caring staff members of Windsor Manor of Indianola for their exceptional care of Dale and his family. A special thanks to Cynthia and the entire Suncrest Hospice team for their passionate care of Dale and his family.
Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Woods Camp, 10896 Nixon Street, Indianola, IA 50125.
