Mildred Wright Risinger
(July 22, 1920 - June 7, 2019)

Mildred Wright Risinger passed away on June 7, 2019, at the age of 98. Mildred was the second of six children born to Carolyn and Paul Wright. She was raised in rural Warren County, and graduated from Milo High School in 1937. She received teaching credentials by attending Simpson College summer classes, and taught in country schools (McNair and North Center) beginning at age 18. She finished her teaching career in Milo in 1947.
On June 19, 1941, she married Guy Risinger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. When Guy returned from service after World War II, they moved to Indianola and started their family: John, Janna, and Jo Ellyn. As they outgrew their first house, they built a new home at 1000 N. Buxton. Mildred was an active volunteer at Hawthorne, Irving, Indianola Jr. and Sr. High Schools as she supported her kids’ activities. She was Sunday School Superintendent and newsletter editor at Trinity United Presbyterian Church where she has been a member for 70 years. She devoted time and energy to P.E.O. Chapter BP, and enjoyed her Kensington and Sewing Club friends. She and Guy delivered Meals on Wheels for 22 yrs. When Mildred became a grandmother, she became Middy to all. She exercised by walking regularly around Indianola. Her fitness routine continued into her 98th year, and she was proud of it. After Guy passed away in 2000, Middy established a new home at The Village and found more friends and new routes to walk.
Middy lived a full and satisfying life by laughing easily, judging rarely, and teaching by example. She read whenever she could and loved to dance with her husband. Her love was unconditional, and her chicken and noodles were the best.
She is survived by John and Patty Risinger of Urbandale, IA, Janna and David Morley of Eau Claire, WI, and Jo and Shannon Buchanan of Salina, KS; grandchildren, Ara, Janie, Keil, Kirk, Claire, and Nate; seven great-grandchildren, and many Wright cousins led by Carol Kaldenberg.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2019 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Indianola. Burial will be private at Belmont Cemetery, Milo. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 9 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial gifts can be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Mildred’s name. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
