Glenda Rose Sellers
(December 6, 1936 - July 30, 2019)

Glenda Rose Sellers, age 82, of Indianola, Iowa, died at her home on July 30, 2019 after battling many years of lung disease and cancer both acquired from Radon toxicity.
She was born on December 6, 1936, to Hazel (Sangunett) and Harold Steele in St. Joseph, Missouri. After first meeting at church camp in 1957 she married her beloved husband of 55 years, Eldon Sellers. She got her first teaching degree from Kansas State University and then continued with her Master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Her teaching career started in a one room school house outside Abilene, Kansas and included teaching assignments in St. Joseph, MO, East Union Community School District in Iowa, and Indianola, IA, where she retired in 1997. She taught middle school learning disabilities for more than 20 years.
Glenda attended her grandchildren’s various activities throughout the years and was very active in her church as well as her camping clubs. She and her husband, both being teachers, spent much of every summer camping, and traveled throughout the country. She met many lifelong friends and shared many nights around the campfire with stories and plans for the future. More recently while at home, she volunteered for local organizations where she went into the schools to read to youngsters and faithfully donated homemade cakes to Food at First. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing bridge and Rumicube with friends, and often visited with friends and acquaintances in the Care Center at the Village in Indianola. She enjoyed sewing throughout her life, and this past year donated 12 baby quilts to Ronald McDonald Charities.
Her death was preceded by her husband Eldon Sellers. She is survived by her children: Charles Sellers of Minneapolis, MN, Deanna Sellers (Matt Towle) of West St. Paul, MN, and Kristine Moats (Marty) of Ames, IA, and her precious grandchildren Abigail Moats of Washington D.C, Jessica Moats and Benjamin Moats of Ames, IA and granddogs Layla and Charlie.
Visitation will be on August 10 at 1:00 p.m. in the Heritage Room at the Village in Indianola, Iowa, with the memorial service at 2:00. There will be a light reception to follow. Funeral arrangements are being made by Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial contributions may be made to CANcer Survivors Against Radon or at www.cansar.org.
