Services for Janis Karen Gideon, 83, of Indianola, who passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Brio of Johnston, will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church with burial following in the Webb Cemetery, Norwalk. A meal will follow at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church.
Janis Gideon went home to be with the Lord while living at Wesley Life Brio Center in Johnston, Iowa on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
Janis Karen Gideon was born at home on March 25, 1936 to Worthy and Margaret Harvey in Wick, Iowa. She attended a one-room school for her early education and went to high school in Indianola where she met her future husband, John Gideon. They were married after her graduation on June 20, 1954 and were married for 57 years before John’s passing in 2011. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Gideon; her parents, Worthy and Margaret Harvey; her brothers, Lynn, Ron and Loren Harvey; a granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Sims and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Weldon. She is survived by six children; Laura Flinn, Jim (Pam) Gideon, Joan (Terry) Gladfelter, John Gideon, Nadine (Scott) Sims and Lisa (Allen) Ihnen; 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Janis spent her life of faith in service to her family and working on the farm. She was just as comfortable on the seat of a tractor as she was seated at a sewing machine or standing by a hot canner in the kitchen. Her personal faith in Jesus Christ gave her a special love for working with children for many years at churches in Norwalk and Indianola. She was active in JOY Clubs, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and AWANA. Many of the children she taught became her special grandchildren. She was a member of the Indianola Regular Baptist Church.
