Sonnie loved Joe since she was 14. She met Joe in St Mary’s and danced with him all of her life. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mom made all of us feel like we were each her favorite. She always spoke her mind, had a quick wit, which would always keep us laughing.
As we moved across the country, Mom enjoyed making each new house a home. She collected antiques and musical instruments and found a perfect place for all of them. Each piece had its own story. Our home was filled with love, music, great food, family and friends. All were welcome in her home.
She created our favorite Christmas traditions which included playing Silent Night on the piano or pump organ, sewing and filling our stockings, making Pastaccina for dinner, and making sure we finished our meal before we opened our presents. She made each holiday feel very special.
Mom has served others throughout her life including volunteering in hospitals where she rocked sick babies and comforted families in the trauma waiting rooms. She served the church and the needy at St. Vincent de Paul and Pre-Cana Counseling. She taught us all the importance of service.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe; daughters, Michele (Craig Filippi) McClelland, Marcia (Wes) Shannon, Mia Gehringer; 12 grandchildren; Lauren, Taylor, Jordan, Austin, Casey, Sam, Jim, Katie, Angela, Tyler, Abby, and Erin. 8 great-grandchildren; Liam, Amri, Arlo, Aria, Carly, Cori, Brooklynn, Brylee and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Maxine Marturello; son, Mike Brommel; sons-in-law, Jeffery McClelland and Chris Gehringer; parents-in-law, Harry and Helen Brommel.Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Wesley Life Hospice.
