(April 16, 1933 - November 9, 2018)

Services for Allen Halvorsen, 85, who passed away Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center, will be held 11 a.m., Monday, November 12 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with cremation following services. Burial of cremains will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, IA at a later date.
Allen was born April 16, 1933, at Palmyra, NE to George Frederick and Ella Sophia (Minderman) Halvorsen. The family moved to Iowa in 1942 after purchasing a farm near Liberty in Clarke County, IA. Allen attended school in New Virginia and finished grade school in Snider country school. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1952. Allen and Phyllis Arlene Miller married July 28, 1954, in Osceola, IA. They are the parents of four children. Allen drove a milk truck and farmed for a year in Clarke County before moving to a dairy farm in Warren County. In 1966, Allen and Phyllis purchased a farm near Medora, IA and built a dairy herd of 100 cows. After their 25th wedding anniversary, they sold the dairy herd to their two sons-in-law and started a beef program until they retired. For seven years, Allen and Phyllis enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, AZ.
Allen is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Janet (Clint) Bauer, Cindy (Albert) Butler, Rick (Rebecca) Halvorsen and Judy (Scott) Webster; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Msuya, Jenny (Chad) Septer, Nathan (Danni Mitchell) Bauer, Gene Butler, Dana (Philip) Duncan, Darcey Halvorsen, Brandon (Nikki) Bauer and Lauren Webster; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Ernest; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Halvorsen, Vicky Halvorsen and Lois Race. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dean, Vallee and Calvin; brothers-in-law, Dwaine Ernst and Harold Miller; and sister-in-law, Margaret Rogers.
Allen was a member of the Warren County Sheriff’s Posse, was involved with the start of the Warren County Water Board, and a member of the Medora Methodist Church.
