Olive Mae Sutherland
(July 20, 1934 - November 20, 2018)

Olive Mae Sutherland, 84, of Indianola, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at home. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Cremation will take place and burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
Olive Sutherland was born in Lucas, Iowa July 20, 1934 to Harry and Marie Hall. She attended grade school in Lucas and went to High school in Chariton after her family moved there. She played softball and basketball in Lucas. After high school she met her future husband, Gust Sutherland. They were united in marriage in Princeton, Missouri and were married for 32 years until his death in 1987. She was a homemaker and worked in the family business with Gust. Olive also worked at Crouse Café, Dr. West's Office, Fareway and Pamida.
When she lived in the country, she raised over 100 bottle fed calves and approximately 60 head of beef cattle by herself. She was very good with all animals; there was usually a pet dog somewhere. Her present dog Missy will miss her; she was a very loyal pet.
Olive got her real estate license at 59 and sold for 10 years. She enjoyed working with people and the public in general. COPD forced her to retire in June of 2003; she fought COPD for nearly 16 years.

Nobody was a stranger to her and all were welcome. She cared for her mother, her brother John (in a wheelchair) and raised a granddaughter all at the same time. In her final last 6 years, she was blessed with a Great Grandson. She enjoyed watching Lucas grow up.
She enjoyed antiques glassware to crocheted lamp shades. She had a very good eye for detail.
She really enjoyed chocolate and all candy. Country Music was usually on in her car, especially George Jones. She had a full life and went away gracefully with her family beside her. Thank you for being her friend.
Olive is survived by her sons, Craig and Randy Sutherland; granddaughter, Heidi Sutherland; great-grandson, Lucas Griffith; and brother-in-law, Rudy Sutherland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust; parents, Harry and Effie Marie Hall; and siblings, John Hall Sr. and Katherine Kent.
