Arlene Sue Sumpter
(November 14, 1951 - July 18, 2018)

Arlene Sue Sumpter, 66, of Prole, IA went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2018.
She was born on November 14, 1951 in Wolcott, Indiana to Marvin and Jo Mathew. She grew up in a large, loving family and was one of six children. She attended Wolcott High School graduating in 1970 and continued on to attend Sawyer College of Business, completing her degree in 1986.
She married Bill Sumpter on August 13, 1977 in Lafayette, Indiana and they enjoyed life together for the next 41 years. Life and work took them to many states including Texas, Michigan, Indiana, and Tennessee before settling in Iowa in 1990.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Devon and Mark. She loved to watch Devon play and sing in his bands and could often be caught on the dance floor.
Arlene worked for the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care for 25 years, finishing her career as a Principal Business Administrator and retired in November 2016.
She enjoyed traveling including fishing trips to Canada, exploring Hawaii and Alaska, taking family vacations to Yellowstone and Niagara Falls and girls trips with her sisters and nieces. She was an avid movie watcher and had a large, diverse movie collection. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; chatting with her family and friends, a good laugh by a bonfire, snuggling with their dogs and spending time with her loved ones. She was an amazing cook and her zeppoles and dumplings will be greatly missed.
All who knew and loved her will remember her dazzling, dimpled smile and contagious laugh; her warm and inviting personality with a side of Italian spirit and her willingness to listen when anyone needed a friend.
Arlene is survived by her husband Bill; sons, Devon (Linda) Miller, Mark (Sarah) Sumpter; parents, Marvin and Jo Mathew; grandchildren, Chloe Anderson, Adalee Miller, Ross Anderson and Colton Miller; siblings, Charlene (Rick) Plant, Alan (Ruth) Mathew, Wendy (Barry) Hancock, Elaina (John) Balser and Brian Mathew and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass for Arlene Sue Sumpter will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 23 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. Cremation will follow services and burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 22 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with a Rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m.
