Virginia Ruth Rinard
(May 9, 1920 - August 10, 2018)

Services for Virginia Ruth Spence Rinard, 98, of Carlisle, who passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Middle River Friends Church, rural Carlisle, IA with burial following in the Scotch Ridge Cemetery, Carlisle.
Virginia Ruth was born May 9, 1920 to J.O. and Nona (Feight) Mundell in Wayne County, IA. She had one sister, Martha. Her family moved quite a bit because her father was a horse trainer. They lived in Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana and Iowa. In the early days she rode a pony to school. Sometimes the pony would go home while she was in class and her dad had to come back after school to get her. During the Depression they never missed a meal although sometimes it was delayed. She married Clyde Spence in August 1938. Together they had four children. They loved dancing to San Antonio Rose by Bob Wills.
Virginia worked at American Republic Insurance Co. for 18 years. After Clyde's passing she later married Walter Rinard. They made their home in Washington State for many years and wintered in Welton, AZ. Eventually, they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.
She enjoyed traveling, Blue Grass music, knitting and crocheting. Each first born child in a family, every high school graduate and each marriage received one of her afghans. Some years you could find her handiwork displayed at the Iowa State Fair, several of which won blue ribbons.

Those left to cherish the memories are her daughter, Vicki (Bob) Wood; sons, Verle (Marge) Spence and Glen “Whitey” (Louise) Spence; step-daughter, Connie Golay; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; a multitude of step grand, step great-grand and step great-great grandchildren; along with a host of extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 14 at Middle River Friends Church.
