Memorial services for JoAnn Rose Ackerman, 78, of Indianola, who passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Eastside Church of the Nazarene, 1451 East 25th Street, Des Moines, IA 50317.
A loving wife, JoAnn worked alongside her husband David, keeping records for their business. She enjoyed planting flowers every spring and keeping her lawn perfect. JoAnn moved to Arizona to care for her elderly parents and worked at Mountain View Church of the Nazarene Christian Daycare as a teacher. She eventually returned to Iowa as owner of the Frontier Motel in Indianola. After a fire destroyed the motel, she began working at Westview Care Center of Indianola in housekeeping. Although she worked outside the house for many years, she was also a homemaker and a loving mom and grandma. A loving grandma to the end, there was none prouder. She took great pride in her grandchildren and was always ready with a hug and kiss for each and every one.
Survivors include her husband, David; children, Jerry (Dorene) Ackerman, Linda Ackerman, Suzanne Ackerman, and Mary Fields; grandchildren, Kristi, Caleb, Betsy, Emma, Jasen, and Andrew Ackerman; and sibling, Dorothy (Jim) Diehl. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lois Matson; brother-in-law, Richard Ackerman; and nephews, David Diehl and Phillip Ackerman.
