Funeral services for Jack Eugene Cook, 70, who passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, in Des Moines, will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 24 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Wallace Cemetery, Wick, IA.
Jack Eugene Cook was born March 21, 1947 to John Floyd and Jennie (Rhoades) Cook in rural St. Charles, Warren County, Iowa. As a boy, Jack loved riding horses and the outdoors. He grew up and spent most of his adult life in the Conger area before moving to New Virginia, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Beeman on March 14, 1969 and to this union two children, Angie and Matt were born.
Jack worked in construction as a carpenter and welder. He enjoyed camping, trail rides, working on cars and country dancing. He was your typical jokester and loved getting into costume for Halloween.
The last fifteen years of Jack’s life he struggled with his health. Because of his deep faith, he was able to lean on God. Instead of focusing on the hardships, he embraced the change and made friends with the medical staff and others that helped him along the way. He was always more concerned with others than himself and said, “Whatever God had planned for him, it was okay.”
Jack loved spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could. He referred to his wife as his Angel, since she did so much to take care of him.
Jack passed away March 17, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 70 years. He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy; daughter Angie, her husband Chris Struble and their children Cole and Dylan; son Matt Cook, his companion Nikki and her daughter Natalee; his siblings, Phyllis Croy, Bill Cook, Carolyn Pollard, and Floyd Cook. His was preceded in death by his parents John and Jennie.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 23 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family in his name.
