Thomas Alan Reese
(November 5, 1954 - February 14, 2018)

Thomas Alan Reese (Tom) passed away at Taylor House in Des Moines, IA, on February 14, 2018 at the age of 63. He was born on November 5th, 1954, to Forrest and Helen Reese at Lutheran Hospital. Tom was the 4th of 4 children. He grew up, graduated from and lived his life in Indianola, IA.
After only 7 months, Tom married Janis Glasscock on December 21, 1974. Their love has endured many obstacles over the years but those couldn’t overshadow their many blessings, mainly, the birth of their two sons, Ryan and Rick, and the joy brought by the birth of their grandson, Lincoln. Spending time with and spoiling his boys is what he treasured.
Tom worked his early years at Super America, then R.R. Donnelley (formerly Meredith Printing) for 21 years. He spent the end of his career at Holmes Chevrolet where he enjoyed showing his skills as a “gear head”.
Tom coached both boys’ little league teams. He enjoyed watching Ryan play softball as an adult and helping him with projects on his home. Tom’s mechanical skills came in handy when he helped Rick with his cars and he served as the crew chief for Rick’s race truck at Eddyville Raceway. He was always willing to offer his expertise to his brothers, other family members and his sons’ friends. We can all recall a project in which he was a part.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janis, son Ryan (Robin), grandson Lincoln, brothers Bill (Dee), Forrest Eldon (Maymie), sister Virginia Ripperger, two nieces, five nephews, many other family members and lots of friends. He also left behind close family friends, Cory, Sami, Dylan and Blaine Amos. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick, parents Forrest and Helen Reese, and nephew Kevin Reese.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 19 at Overton Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 18 at Overton Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial of cremains will follow at the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorials may be given to family for a future memorial. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
