Dan Newbury
(February 28, 1936 - February 27, 2018)

Dan Newbury was born on February 28th, 1936 in Greenfield Iowa to Donald and Goldie (Evans) Newbury. He had one brother, Jack. Dan graduated from Greenfield High School and Simpson College. He participated in multiple sports during high school.
Surviving are his wife Judy of Indianola. Tab (Traci) of Urbandale and their children Erin and Katie. Rob (Julie) of Waukee and their children Rachel, Jenna, Joel and Ava Zeman. Tammy (Trent) Petersen of Indianola. Don (Christy) of St. Mary’s and their children Madison and Trey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack and his nephew Randy.
Dan served in the Iowa Army National Guard after college and was also an Iowa State Trooper until 1964. He then started work at Farm Bureau in the claims department until 1992 when he retired. He was a football referee for high school and college for 30 years. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Officials Hall of Fame in 2005. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in many different sporting events. He was also a very passionate Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed playing golf and was proud of his two hole in one’s and also enjoyed building furniture and fishing. He was the proud owner of a 1930 Model A that he rebuilt from scratch.
Dan passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at The Village in Indianola. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. March 9 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family inhis name.
