Frances Mae Anderson
(November 17, 1931 - October 3, 2017)

Our heavenly Father called Frances Anderson home on October 3, 2017. Born Frances Mae Covey to Harvey and Hazel Covey on November 17, 1931.
Fran graduated from Chariton High School, Class of ’50 with honors in the top 10%. She was active in Future Homemakers of America, featured in a newspaper article in 1949, and studied music at Drake University.
She was married to Second Lieutenant Dale Hollingsworth, United States Army, of Des Moines in 1950, shortly before he was sent to Korea where he was killed in action May 1951.
Frances was reunited with her high school sweetheart and married Cecil M Anderson (Andy) on November 5, 1951. They began their life on their farm at Norwood in Lucas County, and later made Indianola their home. Fran was a loving wife and mother that was blessed with three daughters.
She worked at Meredith Publishing early in her life and returned to work there after raising her family. She was very active in the community which included being a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Indianola, member of the Eastern Star, and served on the board of the New Life Singers, among other civic organizations. Besides serving, she loved tending her gardens, canning, crafting, baking & cooking for family and friends. Fran loved nature, animals and cherished her pets.
Her life is reflected in love for her family and treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fran and Andy carved out time for extensive family vacations and continued to travel after retirement, which included trips with the grandchildren and visiting family and friends.
She is survived by her loving daughters; Deborah (Daniel) Sweeney of St Peters, MO; Linda (Dennis Osborn) Anderson of Henderson, TX; Lora (Gerald) Pierce of Adel, Iowa. Grandchildren: Stephanie Kelly, Elizabeth (Paul) Myrick, Hailee Pierce, and Kacey Pierce. Great-grandchildren Bryce, Nora, Roman, and Raiden. Her sister Mary Smith and niece Shirley (Jerry) Greif of Dallas Center, her brother-in-law Merrill (Barb) Anderson, and many extended relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Cecil (Andy) Anderson, her parents, and her brother Leroy Covey.
Her strong will and encouragement will always be present in our hearts and thoughts and prayers. Indeed, this world has lost a great lady but God has gained an angel.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. October 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation to be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Norwood Cemetery, Lucas County, IA. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the family of Frances Anderson to be dispersed among 3 charities. Special heart filled appreciation to the caregivers for Mom. Leona McNeeley Reetz of Indianola, Bickford of Urbandale, and Suncrest Hospice. They shared in our love for Mom and are living proof angels walk with us through our journey on earth.
