John "Jack" Robbins Barker
(January 25, 1923 - September 09, 2017)

John (Jack) R. Barker of Indianola, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 12 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola with visitation prior from 10 a.m. until service time.
Jack, son of Earl and Una Barker, was born on January 25, 1923. He lived in Indianola through his high school years, graduating in 1941. He started his farming career working for a farm family near Milo. Jack joined the United States Navy in 1942, serving on a tanker ship in the Philippines. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked for People's Trust and Savings Bank branch office in Milo.
Jack married Geraldine Streeter after his military discharge. They lived two years in Fonda where he worked in a bank, then returned to Warren County and purchased a farm east of Milo where they farmed for several years.
He learned how to do land surveying from his father, Earl Barker, and went into private practice. Jack was very active in the Warren County Historical Society and the Presbyterian church in Indianola.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, who passed away in 2015, and a brother, Hugh Barker. Surviving are his brothers, Richard Barker of San Diego, CA, and Edwin (Ethel) Barker of Iowa City; nephews, David Barker, Jim Barker, and Steve Barker; nieces, Alice Miller, Susan Dresdale, Linda Kuntz, and Cindy Duff; sister-in-law, Mary Streeter; and near and dear people, Connie Ridgeway and her family.
