Heart Attack Is Fatal to Dr. Shaw, 57
Indianola, IA. – Dr. Ernest E. Shaw, 57, practicing physician here for 27 years, died at 1 a.m. Saturday at his home following a heart attack suffered two hours earlier. Dr. Shaw had addressed the Rotary Club here at noon Friday and had just returned from an obstetrical case at the hospital here when he was stricken. He was the delegate of the Iowa Medical Society to the American Medical Association meetings; chairman of the subcommittee on rural health of the Iowa Medical Society; president of the Iowa section of the American Academy of General Practitioners; member of the Iowa Heart Society and a trustee of Simpson College here. He was a delegate twice to Rotary International when the sessions were held in Europe and each time he remained in Europe for further medical study. He entered the army in the medical corp. at the age of 50, served 3 ½ years during World War II and retired as a major.
Dr. Shaw was graduated from Simpson College in 1916 and from the University of Iowa Medical College in 1920. He practiced two years at Menlo before coming to Indianola. He was the son of Dr. R. E. Shaw, a Methodist minister. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Hand, Long Island, N.Y.; Mrs. Robert Marks, Westport, Conn., and Mrs. Robert Hoyman, Iowa City; his mother; two sisters, Dr. Mary Shaw, professor of philosophy at the University of Minnesota, and Ethel, business manager of Robin Hood Hospital, Toledo, Ohio and one brother, Dr. Stuart M. Shaw, head of the educational department of the Metropolitan Museum, New York, N. Y. [Earnest E. Shaw was buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Indianola, Iowa]
