Famous Woman Missionary Physician Dies in Chicago
Dr. Lena Hatfield of Chicago, a missionary physician, born in Athens, died Sunday in Chicago following a long illness. The body will be brought to Athens for burial in the West Union street cemetery, the time of arrival to be announced later.
Dr. Hatfield was the daughter of John L. Hatfield, who died a year ago. He was graduated from Ohio University class of 1862 and later was on the faculty of his alma mater. Dr. Hatfield was a member of Ph Beta Phi sorority. She was a sister of Mrs. Florence Hatfield Stanley of California who was in Athens recently and a niece of Miss Emma Carpenter, now of Cincinnati, where Mrs. Stanley is at present.

Hatfield Funeral
The body of Dr. Lena Hatfield, who died Sunday at her home in Chicago, will arrive in Athens at 1:27 p.m. Thursday. Short services will be held at 2:30 o’clock the same afternoon at the chapel in the West Union street cemetery where burial will be made. Dr. Hatfield was the daughter of John L. Hatfield, who died on year ago. The Hatfields were old residents of Athens and their acquaintances are invited to assemble at the cemetery for the funeral services.
