Caroline Simmons Buchanan
(July 12, 1841 – March 18, 1910)

Advocate-Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., March 31, 2010, p.7, col.2-3
Mrs. Alex Buchanan
Caroline Simmons Walsh, daughter of William and Jane Walsh, was born in Allegheny County, Penn., July 12, 1841. When a small child she moved with her parents to Athens County, Ohio, and from Ohio to Illinois at which place she was united in marriage to Alexander Buchanan Nov. 22, 1860. To this union were born six children, two boys and four girls, all living and all at home to minister to their mother in her last sickness except the eldest daughter Mar, of Butte, Mon., who did not reach home until after her mother’s death. She leaves besides her husband and children, one sister, Mrs. Mary Gardner, of Carlisle; one half sister, Jane Highly, of Palisade, Col.; one half brother, of Los Angeles, Cal; and eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Her health had been failing for sometime but the great courage and energy of her quiet nature led her to try to keep back from her loved ones the great change that was slowly but surely coming. And not until a few days previous to her death did they realize that she was going out from their presence. On Friday night March 18, 1910, the death angel came and gently wafted her sweet and loving spirit away to be at rest forever with the Lord in whom she trusted. Never a word of complaint was spoken and without a murmur, she calmly gave evidence that all was well with her soul, and that she was willing and ready to go when ever Jesus came for her. Hers was a beautiful life, full of loving deeds, devoted to her home and family and loved by all who knew her.
