Roger Max Sheely
(May 14, 1930 - September 30, 2015)

Roger Max Sheely passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Indianola, Iowa. Funeral services for Roger will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle, with burial to follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Rose Hill, Iowa with military honors. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. to noon, prior to services at the funeral home. Roger was born on May 14, 1930 in Mahaska County, Iowa to Morris Mitchum (Mike) Sheely and Zella Gatton Sheely. After High School Roger Joined the United States Army where he led a distinguished career. During his career in the army Roger rose to the rank of CW2 and served tours in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Roger was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, One Overseas Bar and a Meritorious Service Medal. Roger is survived by his loving wife Donna (Halliburton) Sheely of Carlisle; sons, Robert(Carol)Sheely of Des Moines, Douglas(Carol)Sheely of New Palestine, Indiana, Richard Sheely of Pleasantville and Dennis(Julie)Sheely of Carlisle; sisters, Violet Valster of Pella and Sandra Hudson of Delta; one brother, Darwin Sheely of Oskaloosa; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children, Michael Lloyd and Rogenna Lynn and 7 siblings. Memorials may be directed to Roger’s family.
