(March 13, 1932 - October 20, 2015)

Dorothy Walter, long time Carlisle, Iowa resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 20th at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Dorothy was born March 13, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence and Kathleen Elliott. Dorothy was born and grew up in Des Moines and attended East High School. Shortly after their marriage in 1948 Dorothy moved to her husband, Carter (Oppie) Walter's, lifelong residence in rural Carlisle, where they owned and operated Walter’s Garage for many years. In addition to their work in the garage, Dorothy and Carter enjoyed a life-long passion for racing – from sprint cars to drag racing their beloved Model A. Early on, they participated in many races and later liked to attend races at Knoxville, Newton and the Des Moines Fairgrounds with their many racing friends. Dorothy loved her family and pets, evidenced by the many pictures displayed throughout her home. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens, canning vegetables from their large garden, cracking walnuts, reading paperbacks, and attending coffee socials with her many dear friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carter, and 2 sisters. Dorothy is survived by her 3 daughters. Ruth (Stan) Leeson, Dodie (John)Hawks, Carol (Doug) Sheely, 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and her faithful four legged companion Molly. Funeral Services will be entrusted to Petersons Funeral Home in Carlisle on Saturday October 24th at 12:00PM with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at Carlisle Township Cemetery immediately following the services.
