Gerry Ann Prine
(July 2, 1956 - August 14, 2017)

Gerry Ann Prine (Garrett, Knowlton) age 61 went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2017. She died of cancer. Gerry was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, again in 2013, and in 2017. Her love of life, faith and courage was inspirational.
Gerry was born to Gerold Gene and Anna Eileen (Hauser) Garrett on July 2, 1956. Gerry Ann graduated from Raytown High School in Raytown, Mo. in 1974. In 1977 she received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Missouri State University. Because people were important to her, Gerry worked in several social work positions that included Campfire, Visiting Nurses Association, and consulting as a Long Term Care Social Worker. Gerry worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services for 25 years as a Child and Adult Protective Investigator and as the Deputy Director of the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children for the state of Iowa.
Gerry loved to work with children and show them God’s love. She served in Girls Missions, Kids Church and Sunday school. For over 15 years Gerry volunteered on the staff of Royal Family Kids Camp for foster children from Polk County, Iowa. Gerry exhibited a zest for life and was happiest when serving others. An elderly man sitting by himself in the oncology lounge would quickly be engaged in conversation. Orderlies transporting her to another x ray or test would, upon return to her room, be introduced by name and have their family dynamics lovingly shared. Gerry’s curiosity, enthusiasm, patience and compassion will be remembered by relatives and friends.
Gerry and her husband, Don, enjoyed hot-air ballooning (that’s how they met), sprint car racing, good books, cards and their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed the adventure of traveling, and of just spending quiet days together.
Gerry Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her son Corey Knowlton(Aimen) and her step daughters husband, Joseph Page. Gerry is survived by her husband Don; brothers, Kent and Rodney(Brenda)Garrett; sister in law, Judy(Ron) Warrick and their family; daughter in law, Aimen Knowlton and Lauren Fetters; friend like a sister, Rita(Jim)Fromm; four step children, Jane Page, Adam, Jason and Zachary Prine; six grandchildren, Carter and Margaret Page, Greyson Prine, Calvin, Devin and Tamia Knowlton will remember her as Grandma G.
Please join us in celebrating Gerry’s life. A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A memorial service will follow visitation at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be in the Avon Cemetery. Memorials for Gerry can be directed to the Royal Family Kid’s Camp in Des Moines. This memorial is provided by Peterson Funeral Services, 415 School St., Carlisle, Iowa, www.petersonfuneralservices.com
