Samuel Lee Martin
(August 29, 1998 - September 2, 2017)

Samuel Lee Martin, son of Dwight Martin, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home in Hartford, Iowa. Sam was born on August 29, 1998 in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2002 Sam was baptized at the Vineyard Church in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2003 Sam, his father, and his brothers, Michael and Lucas, moved to Iowa. A few years later they settled in Hartford.
Sam graduated from Carlisle high school in 2017 with perfect attendance (other than senior skip day) and numerous academic achievements and scholarships. After graduation Sam attended Iowa State University in Ames.
Sam was a hardworking, soft spoken, lovable, gentle giant that would do anything for anyone. Sam was affectionately referred to as “little buddy” because he was the youngest/smallest and grew up to be the biggest. Sam loved mowing. When he was little he needed a bucket of rocks (weights) tied to the seat to keep the mower running. He was known to Hartford residents as “Radar”.
Football was Sam’s favorite sport, but during high school he also participated in basketball and track. Sam loved to lift weights/body building, “Hercules”, the only thing bigger than his muscles was his heart. Sam enjoyed cooking. He was always calling his grandma for recipes. Sam also loved hunting, fishing and just being outside spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed helping his grandparents at home and on their properties. Sam worked for the city of Carlisle, numerous farmers in the area, and winters with his family’s snow removal business. Sam was a person that never spoke a bad word about anyone and was a friend to all who knew him.
Left to cherish Sam’s memory are his father, Dwight(Cyndi) of Hartford; brothers, Michael(Chelsea)Martin of Ankeny and Lucas Martin of Hartford; grandfather, Dale Martin; uncles and aunts, Dennis(Lori)Martin, Doug Martin, Donna(Curt)Salton and David(Sabine Kibby)Martin. Sam will also be missed by 19 cousins and their families as well as 25 second cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his grandmother Joan Martin; aunt, Jackie Martin; his second cousin, Amari Rae Newman; and his favorite furry companion, Blue.
Visitation for Sam will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 am, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford.
