Richard Lee Christensen passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at his home in Carlisle. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Avon Community Church. A visitation will begin one hour prior to services at the church. Burial with military honors will be held at 12:30 PM, Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Richard was born on November 16, 1931 in Decatur County, Iowa to Charles and Ruth Christensen. Richard graduated high school and joined the United States Marine Corps and later the United States Army Reserve where he retired after 22 years. Richard spent many years as a Boy Scout leader. Richard is survived by his wife Margaret of Carlisle; children, Rodney (Debra) Christensen of Carlisle, Dennis Christensen of Des Moines, Janet(Dave)Smith of Indianola, Pam (Steve) Hill of Carlisle and Carla (Roy) Benson of Indianola; a sister in law, Hazel Christensen of Leon and a brother in law Wayne Walters of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
