Indianola Herald, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., Apr 17, 1890, p.3
Obituary – Milo Motor of April 10th
Died – Monday morning, April 7, ’90 at her home near Sandyville, Sarah McCormick, wife of James McCormick, age 65 years and 8 months. Mrs. McCormick had been suffering from heart disease for several years past, but a recent attack of grippe hastened her death. She was born near Gasport, Indiana, and was married to James McCormick August 11, 1842. None were better known than she or their loss more deeply mourned. Her death makes desolate a fireside that was radiant with her presence and a home gloomy that was but a few days since one of the most bright. The deceased was the mother of the following children: Montgomery, George, Thomas and Charlie McCormick; Mesdames J.G. Sandy, H. Reynolds, J. O. Bare, S.C. Luckinbill, G.S. Darnell, and Isaac Ream, all of whom are living except the second son. Death’s black mantle is always attended with gloom, but particularly in this case. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Sandyville, Tuesday, and conducted by Rev. D.W. Wilson, of the Church of Christ, of which she has been a member for the past 35 years.
