Stephen Burberry
(July 19, 1825 - January 7, 1901)

The Indianola Herald, Indianola, IA, Jan 10, 1901, p.8 (newspaper forgot to change year, listed as 1900)
Stephen Burberry was born in Lockwood, England, July 19, 1825, and died in Indianola, Iowa, Jan 7, 1901, aged 75 years, 4 months and 18 days. With his family he emigrated to the United States reaching Nelsonville, Ohio, in July, 1832, and soon after their arrival his mother died leaving a number of children motherless in a strange and new country. It was in this community that he became acquainted with Mrs. Elizabeth Cheshire, a sister of John and Wesley Cheshire, so long residents of this city to whom he was married April 18, 1855 and remained there until 1863, when he and family moved to this city where he has since resided. He was the father of five children, three of whom are living: George, F. S. and Hulda, all of Indianola, and the mother still survives to bless the home and these children.
Mr. Burberry was for many years an active business man in this city, being at one time in the dry goods trade and then in groceries. He was a citizen universally respected by the people and his death takes from the community a quiet substantial neighbor and friend. For a number of years he has been out of business and being a great lover of his home was seldom seen on the streets, enjoying more the quiet it afforded and also in beautifying the grounds and making the home a pleasant resort for himself and family. He was a man of whom it can be truthfully said died leaving not an enemy behind. The funeral occurred from the home this Wednesday. Rev. Hopkins, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city, of which Mr. Burberry was a member, officiating.
