Harold David Putney
(October 7, 1936 - January 25, 2016)

Memorial services for Harold David Putney, 79, formerly of Indianola, who passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to services. Harold David Putney was born October 07, 1936 to Clifford and Louise Putney. He grew up in New Virginia, Iowa the second oldest of five children, LeRoy, Harold, Dale, Pete and Mary, along with two cousins, Darrell and Donnie Putney that were more like brothers than cousins. After graduating from New Virginia in 1956, he married Evelyn Mary Kelso June 11, 1960 and they welcomed into their lives their only child Tari Lynn on December 16, 1963. They lived on a small farm just south of Indianola while he worked full time at Firestone in Des Moines, allowing him to pursue his love of farming. He lost his wife of 19 years November 10, 1979 due to complications of diabetes. While attending the First Assembly of God church in Indianola he then met and fell in love with Gloria Hurd who would become his second wife on August 15, 1980. In the late 80’s they partnered with friends, Jim and Judy Meadows, starting a lean beef business called “P & M Farms”. Around 2000 his stepsons got involved and the business became Early Autumn Farms of Iowa where they shipped beef and Berkshire pork via their website around the country. Harold retired from Firestone in January 1995 after 30 years of employment. Harold and Gloria continued to live just south of Indianola prior to moving to West Des Moines where he tried to keep himself with some various odd jobs here and there. In 2003 he and Gloria moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee where he worked at a local golf course and picked up the game of golf. In 2011 they moved back to Iowa due to his declining health. During his lifetime, Harold enjoyed working on the farm and helping out his farming family. He loved spending time with his family being a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son and brother. He enjoyed fishing … mostly from the shore as he wasn’t a big fan of being out on the water. He loved reading the Bible and anything that dealt with faith. He wasn’t shy about sharing his faith with others and loved discussing the teachings of the Bible. Harold is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughter, Tari (Duane) Adamson; step children, Steve (Wreta) Leonhardt, Marty Leonhardt and Anne (Dan) Berry; seven step grandchildren, Nathan (Lucretia) Berry, Hilary Levine, Hayley Berry, Andrew Berry, Jack Berry, Theo Berry, Simone Berry; six step great-grandchildren, Sinclair, London and Quinn Berry (daughters of Nathen and Lucretia) Roman and Evelyn Levine (son and daughter of Hilary) Seraphina Berry (daughter of Andrew); sister, Mary (Lyle) Berry-Rodda; brother, Pete (Carol) Putney; sister-in-law, Jane Putney; and many nieces and nephews along with extended family and friends.
