Frederick Ashton Wickett
(August 8, 1951 - January 31, 2016)

Services for Frederick A. Wickett, 64, who passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines, IA, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation prior to services starting at 9 a.m. Burial with military rites will be held in the New Virginia Cemetery. Frederick Ashton Wickett was born August 8th, 1951 to Ronald Wickett and Elnora McCoy in Des Moines, IA. He grew up in New Virginia, IA where he spent much of his childhood with his grandparents, Ethel and Ashton Wickett and brother and sisters, at their farm. He attended the I-35 school district and graduated from high school there in the class of 1969. He then attended Des Moines Area Community College and studied accounting for 1 year before he enlisted in the United States armed services in 1971, and served his country proudly for 2 years. During those two years he served in Vietnam and Fort Huachuca, AZ. After returning from his service with the United States Army, Fred joined the National Guard. Shortly after that he met the love of his life, the beautiful Vickie Fry. After a brief courtship, they were married on August 10th, 1974. To this union of 41 years, they had three wonderful children: Aaron Ashton, Justin Lee and Ashley Louise Wickett. The family resided in Indianola, IA for 11 years before returning to their hometown of New Virginia, IA in 1985, where the family still resides. Fred worked in the auto parts industry for 40 years, and retired in 2014. During his life, he enjoyed attending the United Methodist Church where he coached a championship softball team for 25 years, and attending his grandsons’ sporting events including baseball, basketball, and football. He also loved travelling to visit friends and family including his daughter and son-in-law in Oregon and his friends in Ohio. He spent many fun weekends with all his grandkids.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Vickie; children, Aaron (Cassandra Kight), Justin, and Ashley (Jon) Potter; and grandchildren, Jesse Tollett, Luke, Ben, Vanessa, Alexia, Shawn, and Alex Wickett, and Lydia and Laila Nelson; his sisters, Maribeth (Jim) Burr and Jennifer (Jeff) Slump; his brother, Jeff Wickett; his parents; all his nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and a large host of friends.
