Harvey Monroe Chandler
(April 18, 1931 - February 14, 2016)

Harvey Monroe Chandler, 84, left us on February 14th, 2016, with his family by his side. Services will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, February 18 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to services from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A committal service with military rites, will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 19 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter.
Harvey was born April 18th, 1931 to Harvey CW and Luvina Rhoades Chandler in Indianola, IA. He graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. He lived in Chariton, West Des Moines and Des Moines most of his life, moving back to Indianola 8 years ago.
In this time, he serviced in the Army, worked as an over the road driver, a welder, and a shuttle driver from the Des Moines airport terminal.
Over the many years, he has volunteered his time with the Des Moines METS (Mobile Emergency Team Services), Red Cross Disaster Services, and at the Iowa State Fair for 15 years as a Red Cross first aider. He enjoyed fishing, crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles and play solitaire and cribbage with friends and family. And watching sports on the TV. He is survived by his wife, Karen Chandler of 48 years; sister, Jennie Wagner; brother Roy (Patricia) Chandler; sister-in-law Velma Chandler; 9 children and their spouses, Nancy Chandler, Rebecca (Al) Minnis, Charles Chandler, Jimmy Chandler, Edith (Curt) Johnson, Helen Collins, Beverly Houseknecht, Howard (Katie) Chandler, and Leona (Daryl) Mace; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert (Bob) Chandler, and a grandson Johnny Moore.
