Ilka Louise Harvey
(October 21, 1917 - March 12, 2016)

Ilka Louise Harvey was born October 21, 1917 on the family farm southeast of Indianola, Iowa, the eldest of six children to Marcus and Bessie (Davenport) Champlin. She attended rural country schools and was united in marriage to William Harvey on September 11, 1938 in a park in Kansas.
Ilka was very active in the Indianola First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She volunteered at the Indianola Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home and was named volunteer of the year several times. She volunteered at Helping Hand and Congregate Meals and was a member of the Rebekah’s in Indianola. She and her husband Bill enjoyed traveling and would spend winters in San Diego with her daughter and son-in-law. She also loved to dance and visit with people. Ilka passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her husband William Harvey and siblings Marcus and Kenneth Champlin and Dorothy Hawkins. She is survived by her daughter, Marian (Jack) Cowles; three grandchildren, John Reynolds, Tamara (Tom) Wanless and Melissa (Michel) Cowles-Vis; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Griffin, Trevor and Tyler; sister, Betty (Don) Curtis; brother, Lewis (Joyce) Champlin; and sister-in-law, Marie Champlin. A long healthy life – strong willed – always willing to help others, she will be missed by all.
